Last Sunday, we had the pleasure of welcoming Kat Gibson to church to share about the work she does with refugees and asylum seekers in Leicester. Kat is supported financially by St John's as one of our mission partners, and it was a blessing to hear how God uses her work as part of organisation Thrive to bless so many families.
Firstly, Kat extended a huge thank you for the financial contribution before Christmas which contributed to 150 gift bags for asylum seekers and refugees. 100 of these bags went to asylum seekers in a hotel awaiting housing, and another 50 to women and families who have attended Thrive's groups, so therefore were a bit more personalised.

This was just a snapshot into how Kat supports those in need. Thrive's work involves meeting practical needs, providing pastoral care, whilst also providing opportunities for the women she works with to connect and have fun together. On Sunday, Kat shared some anecdotes of people connecting over music and food, and finding moments of joy in what can predominantly be very difficult and isolating circumstances for these individuals.
This work is all done with Thrive's core values at the centre, and Kat offers to pray for people when there is need.
At SJB, our commitment isn't just to give financially, but also to pray regularly for Kat. Please pray...
For physical and psychological healing for the women Kat is working with
For God to equip and guide our new volunteers
For wisdom for Kat in how best to use her time, and prioritise within the 50 families she is working with
Finally, if you feel moved to get involved, you can volunteer: www.ThriveLeicester.co.uk/volunteer, or provide Kat with further financial support: Interserve.co.uk/donate
