THIS IS OUR STORY

St John’s is a unique adventure. In late 2014 after a team of people from Holy Trinity Leicester joined the existing church community to strengthen the church’s mission and ministry. Since then, the church has been on a journey of growth. We are incredibly excited by how God has been at work in us and through us.

St John’s has of course been around as a place of worship in Clarendon Park for a long time – since 1885. However, this latest phase in the life of St John’s is unique.

Since 2014 we have been building the community at St John’s. We began by developing our services, introducing live music, children’s groups and prayer ministry. Then in Autumn of 2015 we altered the service pattern to be what it is today. We ran an Alpha course and have established Bible Study groups. We have been developing our outreach and mission to our local community primarily through our mission partnership with St John’s Primary school, but also through being a presence in our community and running various events. We have been growing the team by adding an Administrator, some interns, a youth worker, a children’s a families worker, a students worker and a worship and media co-ordinator.

The journey of St John’s is such that our Bishop designated us a Resourcing Church (one of six in the Diocese of Leicester) in Sep 2018 - meaning that we are transitioning from being a church plant to a planting church, a parish church to a resourcing church and from a growing church to a sending church. With the designation and transition we now also have an Associate Vicar and Planting Curate to help us achieve the vision we believe God has given us, to reach the 93% of the population of Leicester and beyond who have no contact or involvement with church - to share with them the love and hope of Jesus Christ!
